Vijay Mallya appears before Delhi High Court

A French turbo aircraft supplier has sought execution of a foreign decree amounting to $18 mn against Kingfisher Airlines.

Liquor baron Vijay Mallya on Tuesday appeared before the Delhi High Court in connection with a matter where a French turbo aircraft supplier has sought execution of a foreign decree amounting to $18 million against the grounded Kingfisher Airlines.

Avion De Transport Regional Gie had earlier this year moved the Delhi high Court seeking execution of a decree passed by an UK court directing Kingfisher Airlines to pay $18 million. United Breweries Holdings was the corporate guarantor in a deal signed between ATR and KFA. Earlier on July 5, Justice S Muralidhar had allowed applications filed by Mallya and UBH MD Harish Bhat seeking exemptions from attending the hearings.

Both the MDs had also filed applications seeking permission from the court that Sanjay Bahadur (VP, corporate affairs of KFA) and CK Sharma (senior general manager of UBH) should be allowed to represent them in the proceedings.

The judge had allowed the same, subject to the condition that the two MDs will appear before the court as and when ordered by it and that their authorised representatives will also be present during all the proceedings.
