Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday formally launched his campaign from Varanasi terming the Congress and the BJP as “demons” and BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi “two sides of the same coin”.
Referring to physical attacks on him in the recent past, Kejriwal said he won’t be cowed down. “Main tumhari chhati par moong dalta rahoonga (I will continue to hound you — Congress and BJP),” he said at an interactive session in Nadesar area here.
Invoking the electors, he said they have always helped leaders win and should try to defeat somebody this time and “watch the fun”. “Can you imagine what will happen if Rahul Gandhi looses in Amethi? Congress will disintegrate. If Modi looses from here, I am certain, nobody will think of making him the Prime Minister even if he wins from Vadodara. This will give rise to new and honest politics.”
He tore into the BJP’s claims that Modi will bring development in Varanasi. “On May 17, he will leave Varanasi for Vadodara. Which PM has improved his constituency?. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru used to contest from Phulpur; it has not improved. Then he contested from Allahabad. Is everything alright there? Indira Gandhi contested from Rae Bareli; what is the condition there? Rajiv Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi fought from Amethi. Kumar Vishwas (AAP candidate from Amethi) was telling me that Rahul will lose by two lakh votes,” he said. Kejriwal said Maninagar Assembly constituency was yet to see better days even though its representative, Modi, has been the CM of Gujarat for the past 10 years.
Accusing media of being partisan, he said, he had showed a letter in which Modi had written to increase the gas prices to help Ambanis. “But they did not show it. And then Modi called me an agent of Pakistan and AK-49,” he said.
On why he always targeted Modi and not Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul, the AAP leader said: “Inki neend maine jitni haraam kee hai, utni kisi ne nahin kee hai (Nobody has robbed them of their — Congress’ — sleep as much as I have)”. He claimed that it was he who had exposed Robert Vadra’s land deal and sat on a dharna demanding removal of 15 UPA ministers. “I have defeated (Delhi Chief Minister) Sheila Dikshit , not the BJP,” he said.
