Bajaj Auto has approached the Bombay High Court against the reference given by the state labour department to the Pune industrial court last month after which the court had said that no workman shall be forced to give any undertaking in exchange of offer of wage rise until the next date of hearing.
?The company has approached the high court against the reference given by the labour department to the industrial court which is unlawful in our wisdom,? Kailash Zanzari, vice-president, motorcycle, manufacturing, Bajaj Auto said.
The matter will be heard in two weeks, he said.
Bajaj Auto had offered a R10,000 wage hike to its workers at the Chakan plant on February 15 through a notice at the plant. It had proposed another two slabs?a raise of R9,500 for workers with three-five years of experience and R9,000 for those with three years experience. The wage hike was to come into effect after a written acknowledgment from the workers. But the company?s recognised union, Vishwa Kalyan Kamgar Sanghatana and its president Dilip Pawar had rejected this offer.
Zanzari had earlier said that the proposed wage hike in the company was not being forced upon workers and it was a voluntary decision of the workers.
