Who needs a visa?

Running around for a visa is the biggest hassle when planning a multi-country holiday. However, there are 51 countries that allow visa-on-arrival or visa-free access to Indians. Here are the most popular for 2014

Hong Kong: A visa for Hong Kong can be got on arrival, which is for a maximum stay of 14 days. Visitors are required to show evidence of sufficient funds to cover their stay in Hong Kong and hold travel documents for their return or for the next destination. It is a great city with fabulous restaurants, nightlife and dazzling skyscrapers.

Egypt: Again, a place where Indians are welcomed, including a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days. All you need are documents like return tickets, reservations and money up to $30 a day per person per day. It can be hot in summer, but a chance to see the ancient Giza pyramids is not to be missed.

Thailand: It is already one of the most popular destinations for Indians. However, Bangkok?s charms have given way to seaside resort islands like Phuket, Hua Hin, Koh Kood, Koh Sichang and Koh Tarutao, famous as the location for the TV series Survivor.

Maldives: The islands are spectacular and visa for Indians can be obtained on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days. Visitors are required to hold documents for their next destination, while those who do not have a hotel reservation are required to show at least $30 per person per day to cover their stay.

Seychelles: Another Indian Ocean archipelago where visa for Indians can be obtained on arrival for free for a maximum stay of 30 days provided visitors hold an onward or return ticket and funds of a minimum of $150 per day per person along with proof of accommodation. Seychelles is famous for some of the best beaches in the world, pristine and uncrowded.

Saint Kitts and Nevis: The Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, located in the Leeward Islands, is a federal two-island country in the West Indies. Visa for Indians can be obtained on arrival for free for a maximum stay of three months provided they hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay. You can expect natural beauty, warm waters and white sandy beaches.

St Lucia: This is a sovereign island country in the Caribbean on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. Visas for Indians can be obtained on arrival for a maximum stay of six weeks by paying a fee of $50 and holding proof of sufficient funds to cover the stay. St Lucia stands apart from the rest of the Caribbean islands thanks to its varied landscape and diverse culture and cuisine.

Jamaica: Jamaica is the land of Bob Marley and some famous cricketers apart from Montego Bay, the setting for the iconic James Bond movie. An island paradise where Indians do not require a visa for up to six months provided your Indian passport is valid for that period and you have proof of sufficient funds and a confirmed return ticket.

Macau: Now that the Bollywood fraternity has started holding its award functions here, it?s become the hot new destination. A Macau visa for Indians can be obtained on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days. Visitors are required to show evidence of sufficient funds ($60) to cover their stay in Macau and hold travel documents. It is one of the two Special Administrative Regions of the People?s Republic of China, but allowed to retain its laidback, Portuguese flavour.

Madagascar: A country that occupies a large island of the same name in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa. With lemurs, baobabs, rainforest, beaches, desert, trekking and diving, Madagascar is a dream destination for nature lovers. Visa for Indians can be obtained on arrival for a maximum stay of 90 days by paying a fee of MGA 1,40,000 ($75).

Mozambique: Another country on the Indian Ocean coast of southern Africa bordered by South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. Mozambique?s eastern coastline along the Indian Ocean is more than 1,000-km long, a fantastic place for scuba divers, deep-sea fishing and water sports enthusiasts. Visa for Indians can be obtained on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days by paying $66. Visitors are required to show evidence of sufficient funds to cover their stay in Mozambique and hold travel documents.

Other countries where Indians don?t need visas (Nepal, Bhutan) or can get one on arrival include Malaysia, Bolivia, El Salvador, Kenya, Cambodia, Laos, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Djibouti, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Laos, Mauritius, Costa Rica, Vietnam, Indonesia (including Bali), Jordan, Ethiopia, Grenada, Dominican Republic, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Burundi, Comoros and Myanmar, among others.
