Volkswagen, the glorious German automaker has gained the stature of manufacturing supremely luxuriant and performance oriented cars throughout the entire India. This peerless reputation is the outcome of its effortless vehicles which are graced by some extra-ordinary craftsmanship. And, as far as innovation and strategy is considered, Volkswagen turned out to be a trendsetter for the whole auto industry, courtesy its audacious vision and optimistic approach. (CarDekho)
Indeed, it was not so-easy step as the other market leaders were introducing new vehicles and variants in order to garner more and more numbers from people. But, this out-of-the-box thinking reaped some incredible rewards for Volkswagen as immense appreciation began to pour in from everywhere for Cross Polo. Volkswagen did nothing extraordinary in its development, what it actually did was, just gave Polo a far more rugged stance followed by some more upmarket interiors, and termed it as a completely new vehicle, 'Cross Polo'. It helped the German automaker in several ways; like it saved the manufacturing cost of an entire new vehicle, secondly Volkswagen's name again popped out in the auto industry and thirdly, its arsenal of vehicles got expansion as Cross Polo further graced it by its presence.
Now it seems as if Fiat and Toyota have decided to follow the footsteps of Volkswagen, as they are also planning to introduce their cross vehicles in form of Punto Adventure and Toyota Etios Cross, respectively. Toyota Etios hasn't been a fruitful product for Toyota and same goes for Fiat Punto as they haven't drawn the expected attention from people, which had ultimately resulted in deteriorating sales graphs. Therefore, both Toyota and Fiat are trying this special move, having seen the success of Volkswagen. Furthermore, it would also extend their respective arsenals of vehicles and provide more options to a customer.
Toyota would present the Etios' cross in both petrol and diesel fuel trims, while retaining the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines that are currently doing duties to the company's another hatch back, Liva. Taking a leaf out of Volkswagen's book, Toyota has made slight modifications in the exteriors of the car like redesigned front bumper, inclusion of alloy wheels along with silver roof rails. All these advancements would extensively distinguish it from Etios Liva and would provide it a completely unique identity which is quite essential for a vehicle..On the other hand, Fiat has also chalked out its plans and rumor mill is abuzz that Fiat would roll out the crossover Punto Adventure by mid 2014, inspired heavily by its Punto hatchback. The vehicle, it is believed, would have several technological advancements as compared to the existing Punto which would help it comprehensively in lining-up against the likes of Volkswagen CrossPolo and Toyota Etios Cross. Recently, some spy shots of the vehicle further revealed that Fiat had incorporated an all new rear bumper along with a spare wheel with handle attached to its boot. The rear wheel also carries the 'Adventure' badge in the center.
Both these unprecedented vehicles would certainly get a warm welcome amidst the reigning market leader of the segment, CrossPolo. It is very likely that both the vehicles would crave to a special niche of audience and would also play a crucial role in company's growth. Stakes are pretty high this time around, as both Toyota and Fiat are not going through the best of time in the Indian auto sector and failure of any single vehicle certainly means curtains for the company. Hence, expectations are immensely high from both the vehicles. One more thing that would decide the fate of these vehicles and plays a prominent role in their run at the Indian auto-sector, is the pricing. It would be quite enthralling to see how the respective companies, Toyota and Fiat, price these vehicles in accordance with their existing vehicle lineup. The pricing would be an impacting factor which would possess the capability of influencing the final decision of any individual. Hence, Totoya and Fiat must price Etios Cross and Punto Adventure cautiously as far as reaping rich dividends is concerned, similar to the Volkswagen CrossPolo.
