The special CBI court has exempted ADAG chairman Anil Ambani from personal appearance before it as a prosecution witness in the 2G spectrum allocation case on Friday.
CBI Judge OP Saini allowed Ambani’s plea seeking exemption from personal appearance on the ground that he has ?pre-scheduled? business engagements.
His wife Tina Ambani has also been asked to testify as a witness in the case, but no date has been yet fixed for her appearance.
Earlier, during the day, the Supreme Court refused to grant an urgent hearing on the Reliance Telecom?s appeal challenging Saini’s order summoning the couple as prosecution witnesses in the case.
The apex court has posted Reliance’s petition for hearing on Monday before a special bench, comprising justices Singhvi and K S Radhakrishnan, which is hearing matters related to the scam.
In his application before the trial court, Ambani said that had received the summon on July 23 and ?owing to extremely short notice of just two days,? it would not be possible for him to appear on Friday due to ?large number of pre-scheduled and pre-committed business engagements.?
However, the application stated that Ambani would appear before the court any day after August 15.
