Jusco bags Rs 39-cr KMDA MSW contract

Jamshedpur Utilities & Services Company, a 100% subsidiary of Tata Steel, which recently bagged the municipal solid waste management contract for Mysore city from the Mysore City Corporation has now bagged a municipal solid waste.

Jamshedpur Utilities & Services Company (Jusco), a 100% subsidiary of Tata Steel, which recently bagged the municipal solid waste (MSW) management contract for Mysore city from the Mysore City Corporation has now bagged a municipal solid waste (MSW) management contract for six municipalities under the Kolkata metropolitan area.

Under the project Jusco is to construct 5 ?transfer stations? and 6 ?compost plants? in the municipalities of Champdani, Baidyabati, Serampore, Rishra, Konnagar and Uttarapara-Kotrung all falling under Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).

Coming under the Kolkata Solid Waste Management Improvement Project (KSWMIP), the Rs 39 crore project is to be funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Talking about the project, work on which has just about commenced this month, Jusco head corporate communications Rajesh Rajan said it was the first JICA project the urban infrastructure service provider has bagged through a bidding process.

On completion of construction of the ?transfer stations? and the ?compost plants? under the six municipalities within the stipulated timeframe of 39 months, Jusco has to hand over the same to KMDA.

Jusco has been offering integrated solutions to municipal waste management comprising of waste transfer, transfer station management, composting, engineered structured landfills, integrated waste recycling and reclamation, recycling of municipal and specialized wastes, etc.

Re-engineered out of Tata Steel’s town services in April 2004, Jusco is the country’s first enterprise that provides municipal and civic services for townships and is also the only EMS 14001 civic services provider in the country.

Jusco is principally into water & waste water management services, power distribution, engineering & construction services and municipal solid waste management & public health services, with horticulture and a couple of other services.

The utilities major which bagged the ‘TPM Excellence Award -2008’ instituted by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) has among several other national and international awards also bagged the National Urban Water Awards (NUWA) in the ?citizen services & governance category? for 2009.
