Delhi discoms not cooperating with audit, CAG tells high court

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on Monday told the Delhi High Court that the Capital’s three power discoms were refusing to cooperate in the CAG audit ordered by the court.

The counsel on behalf of the national auditor told HC that Reliance Infrastructure-owned BSES Yamuna and BSES Rajdhani and Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL) were not only being uncooperative but also refusing to furnish the requisite documents.

The three discoms had moved the court against a January 24 order of the single-judge, who had refused to stay an order of the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government, directing CAG to carry out an audit of the three discoms.

During the proceedings, the counsel appearing on behalf of the national auditor, pointed that the discoms were in contempt of the single-judge’s order as they were acting uncooperative with the audit undertaken, even when they had been directed to cooperate with the CAG.

The counsel on behalf of the Delhi government pleaded before HC that the matter should be heard by a bench comprising justices Pradeep Nandrajog and VK Rao, who had earlier decided the matter of audit of telecom companies. He added that another matter lodged by an association of resident welfare associations against the discoms was also being heard by it. On the other hand, counsels appearing for the discoms had sought an adjournment of the matter as an appeal of an earlier HC order concerning audit of telecom companies will be heard by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
