Delhi police seek CCTV footage from Meridien

Delhi Police asked the Le Meridien hotel to provide CCTV footage of the day the incident was said to have taken place at the hotel

A day after an inquiry by a Supreme Court panel found retired judge A K Ganguly prima facie guilty of ?unwelcome behaviour? and ?unwelcome conduct of sexual nature? with a young lawyer who interned with him in December last year, the Delhi Police asked the Le Meridien hotel to provide CCTV footage of the day the incident was said to have taken place at the hotel.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) S B S Tyagi said: ?We have made a verbal request to the Le Meridien hotel authorities. A formal written request will also be made.?

On November 6, the intern from the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), writing on a blog which was later recorded by Legally India website publishing editor Kian Ganz, alleged sexual harassment by Justice Ganguly at the Le Meridien hotel on December 24, 2012.

Ganz later interviewed the intern and has been in touch with her.

On Friday, police officers said they will also speak to hotel employees in connection with the incident. One of the officers said an FIR will be registered only after the intern?s statement is recorded.

On November 14, former Delhi University Law Faculty professor S N Singh had lodged a complaint at the Tilak Marg police, seeking registration of an FIR against Justice Ganguly.

On November 18, Delhi Police sent an email to the intern, asking her to record her statement. An email was also sent to Ganz, asking him to provide contact details of the intern.

Ganz wrote back to police saying he had spoken to her and, in his assessment, she was not interested in making a statement before police since she had already deposed before the Supreme Court panel. Two later, the woman responded, saying she was not interested in ?participating in a parallel process?.

On Thursday, police again wrote to the intern, asking her to suggest a place and time where they could meet and record her statement. She is yet to respond to this latest email.
