THIS SEASON’S Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort ’15, scheduled to be held in Mumbai from March 18- 22, seeks to do more than just showcase haute couture. The bi-annual fashion event, which completed 15 years in 2015, also aims to raise global awareness against gender violence, with the launch of WEvolve, a global campaign to empower young men and women to challenge norms that lead to the worldwide problem.
And joining the cause is fashion designer Manish Malhotra, who showcased a preview of his collection for the fashion week in the capital recently.
Malhotra’s collection will be showcased under WEvolve’s ‘Blue Fashion Runway’ show—part of Lakme Fashion Week’s 15-year celebrations—on March 18, Day 1 of the event, which will kick off the WEvolve campaign. “Fashion has a comprehensive and universal appeal and can thus be a powerful instrument to raise awareness and promote action. I am happy to contribute to this cause,” said Malhotra.
Saket Dhankar, head, fashion, IMG Reliance, one of the organisers of the show, added, “We are happy to introduce the Blue Fashion Runway in collaboration with Manish Malhotra at the Lakmé Fashion Week this season to address the issue of gender violence. The show has all the makings of a blockbuster: top designers, strong collections and an enviable front row with some of the best faces in the glamour, media and entertainment industries.”
Describing his collection for the week, Malhotra said, “My collection this year is a bit more easy, bit more lighter in terms of flow. The whole idea is to reinvent and do something new… something that you want to do. I have used a lot of ivory, navy blue and beige. However, I think yellow is the colour of the year.
