FDI policy prerogative of Centre: Sharma

Union commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma was very categorical that foreign direct investment (FDI) policies cannot be dictated by any state government, and they are the prerogative of the Centre. These remarks were in reference to Aam Aadmi Party?s opposition to FDI in the retail sector. Talking to industrialists who raised concerns on FDI retail policies at a CII interactive session here on Monday, Sharma said, ?That?s a national policy; it cannot be dictated to by anybody. There are policies which only a national government can revisit. And the investments that come in will be protected under the law,? adding that this policy cannot be changed by any union territories and individual states. AAP in its manifesto has stated it sought to protect small retailers from competition in organised retail, saying it will oppose FDI in retail in India.
