A year after Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) acquired majority stake in the Bangalore-based company Reva Electric Car Company, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles is all set to launch its first product NXR, a four-door car, in the country.
The company plans to focus on the Indian market in the first year and take the product to Europe next year. Currently, the company sells a handful of cars in the Indian market, with the bulk being exported. The NXR will be launched in India by Diwali and go to Europe next year.
?Our focus is Indian market first with NXR and, then, we would look at exports,? said, Chetan Maini, founder and chief of technology and strategy, Mahindra Reva.
?With the new product NXR, we are hopeful to make decent numbers in the Indian market as well exports,? Maini added. Other potential electric car markets for the company include Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South America and South Africa. There are around 1,200 Revas in UK.
The company is also looking at working with government and private players to develop a networked charging gridfor electric vehicles.
Talking about the electrification programme of M&M vehicles, Maini said, ?We are working on a large number of vehicles and see huge potential.? The electric M&M Verito on display at the Auto Expo is one of the new additions. Mahindra Reva has been involved in electrification of Maxximmo and Gio products earlier.
