Stringent verification norms and the ongoing drive to stop mobile service operators from offering freebies to users resulted in the disconnection of 9.53 million GSM subscribers from the country’s wireless networks during November.
The de-growth in the subscriber numbers have pulled the total wireless subscribers on GSM network to 663.78 million, a fall of 1.34% from the subscriber base in October.
According to the GSM industry body COAI, Bharti Airtel lost the highest number of subscribers (2.8 million) during the month to end its total subscriber tally at 1.83 million.
Its market share was 27.66% during the month and it lost the highest number of subscribers in the AP circle, a loss of 6.22 lakh.
Vodafone, too, lost a chunk of subscribers (2.38 million) to end its total subscriber base at 150 million.
The company lost the maximum number of subscribers in Gujarat ? of 2.81 lakh. Idea registered 114 million users in the month. The firm lost 2.8 million subscribers in Karnataka to register 1.35% less mobile phone users on its networks.
