Here is how to get employed! Jobs for techies are limited and competition very heavy, but for those who are qualified, sky is the limit. Technology giant Google in a recent tie-up has joined hands with online education leader Coursera to launch a certificate course aimed at filling entry-level IT support jobs globally. The news about the new course was announced by Google and Coursera on January 17. The certificate course titled- ‘Google IT Support Professional Certificate’ has been developed by subject-matter experts at Google and will be offered exclusively on Coursera. With the help of this certificate course, anyone with no prior experience can be ready for an entry-level IT support job in 8 to 12 months.

This programme has been designed to allow learners share their information with a host of top companies that are looking for entry-level support professionals. These top companies include- Google, Bank of America, Walmart, Sprint, GE Digital, PNC Bank, Infosys, TEKSystems and UPMC. The registrations for the same has begun on January 16, while all the courses will launch on January 23.

Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Google, Ben Fried while talking about the news certificate course said, “Finding qualified IT personnel is a challenge many companies face. With 150,000 open roles in IT support, it is one of the fastest growing occupations in the country.” He added, “We developed this curriculum to address this problem head on. We are looking forward to working with Coursera, our non-profit grantees and participating corporations to create opportunities for thousands of learners.”

designed to provide anyone, regardless of their prior experience or training, with the resources they need to succeed as IT professionals.”

According to an HBS study on jobs that require training but not a formal degree, IT support offers clear pathways that enable people without a college degree to rise to higher-level positions.
