The Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced a 100 percent scholarship for all the OBC students of the state.
The state government will discuss the issue of giving 100 per cent scholarship to OBC students immediately in the Cabinet, R R Patil, Deputy CM said in a egislative Council.
Currently, OBC students doing vocational courses from schools and colleges recognised by the government get 50 percent scholarship. This decision will be extended to give 100 per cent scholarship, Patil said.
He also assured the House that it will think on giving scholarship to financially backward students.
A separate fund will be reserved to give those scholarships, he added.
The issue of giving 100 percent scholarship was raised by Congress MLC Sudhakar Gangane. He said it is a question of five lakh OBC students who get only 50 percent scholarship and demanded full scholarship for them.
