MeritTrac, a testing and assessment company today announced its partnership with Proxor (a Carnegie Mellon University spinoff) to launch India?s first standardized software development certification for coders and programmers.
The Authentic Examinations is based on years of research in terms of teaching and evaluation methodologies followed at Carnegie Mellon University and Proxor aims to make this test as a bench mark for software developers and programmers globally.
According to George Kopetski, Executive Vice President ? Sales & Marketing, Proxcer, lack of employability is a global issue, while large companies are in position to spend huge money in staff training and orientation programs that’s not the case with small firms.
?This problem actually led the development of a software test that authenticates the skills and knowledge of software coders and developers in an real software development environment,? Kopetski said.
Beside, the research from Carnegice Mellon University, the 4-6 hour long test has been prepared with the inputs and suggestions from software industry including top IT companies like Accenture, Infosys, Mahindra and others.
The Authentic Examinations is part of World Bank’s $2.7 million initiative that was launched around 2011 with an aim to develop a standard, secured, authentic and affordable technology solution for testing software development skills and know-how. After conducting pilot tests over past some months, Proxcer is now commercially taking this testing product in the market.
Under the partnership MeritTrac will offer companies and colleges, Proxor’s Authentic Examinations across India.
According to Vasu Saksena, Chief Executive Officer, MeritTrac, technology companies have been consistently challenged by the quality of software developers particularly at the entry levels and candidates also want to differentiate their candidature with credible certifications.
?A scientifically designed assessment that accurately measures the test-takers? ability to program realistic problems in a professional software development environment is the need of the hour. We are glad to be associated with Proxor in offering Authentic Examinations,? Saksena said.
While Indian IT sector continues to struggle with skills shortage among potential employees or freshers, this certification in a way will help to bridge the gap of skills and employability, according to Saksena.
The test will available to individual software developers from next month, however the Manipal Education Group company hasn’t disclosed cost of certification.
