In a meeting that lasted close to fifty minutes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised a wide range of bilateral issues including trade and terrorism with Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday.
?When the two leaders met in New Delhi, India?s concerns over terror were articulated. Prime minister Modi underlined our concerns related to terrorism,? foreign secretary Sujatha Singh told media persons, adding that New Delhi expected speedy trials for the 2008 Mumbai attacks and for Pakistan to honour its commitment that its territory would not be used for terrorist activities.
Singh said the possibility of full trade normalisation was also discussed. Both sides discussed the issue of non-discriminatory market access to be given by Pakistan and the foreign secretary said the two countries are fully ready to resume normalisation of trade relations at the earliest.
The new prime minister remarked that Pakistan must abide by its commitment to prevent the territory of Pakistan and the territory under its control for use to spread terrorism in India. Modi said the two countries could move towards trade normalisation on the basis of the September, 2012 road-map on political and economic relations.
