Revenge remark: Election Commission notice to Amit Shah
TAKING note of the “revenge” remark made by Narendra Modi’s aide Amit Shah while campaigning in riot-affected areas of UP, the EC on Monday issued notice to him for prima facie violation of the Model Code of Conduct. It asked the BJP leader to explain within three days as to why action should not be initiated against him for violating the code through his speeches made while campaigning in Shamli, Bijnore and Muzaffarnagar districts.
Modi attacks Gandhi family, says Cong has given ?damad power?
In a frontal attack on the Gandhi family, Narendra Modi on Monday raked up Robert Vadra’s controversial land deals issue, alleging that farmers were forced to sell land at throwaway prices and that the Congress gave “damad (son-in-law) power” in place of development. Addressing rallies in Haryana and Rajasthan, the BJP’s PM candidate questioned why Congress was silent on the issue and asked Rahul Gandhi to explain the policies “through which you have given land to your jeejaji (brother-in-law”. He said the Congress will suffer a rout as it did after the Emergency. Addressing a rally in Rathkudia area in Pali constituency, Modi said “there is nuclear power, hydro power, wind power and solar power but for the first time, ‘damad power’ is being heard of in Rajasthan”.
Mamata dares EC, says she will not transfer any official
In a showdown with the Election Commission over the transfer of a DM and five SPs, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday accused it of playing into the hands of the Congress and BJP and said transfers had been ordered without consulting the state government. “The EC has given the order for transfer of five SPs without consulting the state government and the names of their replacements have also been announced (by EC). I respect the EC. But I will not bow down. I ask, will you only listen to what the Congress will say in order to facilitate the victory of Congress, BJP?” she said, while addressing a rally in Burdwan district. She said she would not transfer any official as long as she is the CM and reminded the EC that it has its limitations.
