The government has received 36 applications for the three coal blocks placed for tariff-based bidding recently. ?So far the coal ministry has received 36 applications from companies like JSPL (Jindal Steel and Power Ltd) and Tata Steel?, a source said, adding that applications for bids are open till May. ?The entire process, including evaluation of applications and shortlisting the firms before the coal blocks are allotted, will take at least four months,? the source said.

India, Russia finally sign agreement on Kudankulam 3, 4 units

After years of deadlock on the liability issue, India and Russia have signed an agreement for building units 3 and 4 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant project at a cost of R33,000 crore. The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd signed a general framework agreement (GFA) with its Russian counterpart on April 10. However, some permissions are required from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board before work on the project could start.

Mine institute achieves record drilling in coalfields in FY14

The Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Ltd (CMPDI) has recorded an all-time-high drilling of 6.98 lakh metre during 2013-14. The overall growth was very significant and it could have crossed the nine-lakh mark had there not been law and order and forest clearance issues, the institute?s chairman-cum-managing director AK Debnath said. While exploratory drilling was carried out in a hundred blocks across 21 coalfields in six states, promotional drillings was carried out in 22 blocks across eleven coalfields in seven states, Debnath said.

Shopping mall supply dips 65% in Jan-Mar, Pune lone city to add space

The supply of retail space in shopping malls fell by 65% during January-March in top eight cities to 3.5 lakh sq ft as completion of four malls got deferred, Cushman & Wakefield said. Mall supply stood at 1 million sq ft during the first quarter of 2014 in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Kolkata. ?Total mall supply received in Q1 2014 was 22% of the total expected in this quarter, also registering a y-o-y drop of 65%?, C&W said. ?Fresh mall supply of 3.5 lakh sq ft became operational, all of which was received by Pune. The rest of the cities saw no new mall development activity,? it said.

Adani Power?s generation capacity increases to 8,620 MW

Adani Power has said its overall generation capacity has increased to 8,620 MW, making it the country?s ?largest private power producer?. The utility recently commissioned the fourth unit, having 660 MW capacity, at its Tiroda plant in Maharashtra. ?Adani Power has added 2,640 MW in the last financial year, accounting for nearly 15% of the overall capacity addition of about 17,000 MW in the country,? the company said.
