Mid-tier IT services firm MindTree on Tuesday announced the appointment of Pankaj Chandra, director, IIM-Bangalore, to its board, effective March 19. Last month, the IT company restructured its board, by reducing the number of directors to five from seven. The company said, Chandra?s background in research, consulting, policy and administration is expected to help Mindtree refine it?s management strategy and build stronger bridges with the academic community. Chandra, who has been part of IIM-B since 1997 is currently a professor of operations and technology management at the institute. Last month MindTree named Subroto Bagchi as its new chairman, filling in the top post nearly a year after co founder Ashok Soota quit to start his new venture. Bagchi, one of its founders, replaced Albert Hieronimus, who was appointed as the non-executive chairman of the company following Soota?s exit.

Nalco aims sales turnover of R7,073 cr in FY13

National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has set a target to achieve a sales turnover of R7,073 crore in 2012-13. The sales turnover target is R500 crore more than the target for 2011-12. According to a company spokesperson, the PSU has signed an MoU with the Union ministry of mines committing annual physical and financial performance targets. The MoU was signed by Nalco chairman-cum-managing director, BL Bagra, and the Union mines secretary, Vishwapati Trivedi, at New Delhi on Monday.

Tata Power synchronises second unit at Dhanbad

Tata Power announced the synchronisation of its second unit of 525 MW of its Maithon mega power project in Dhanbad, Jharkhand under the standard requirements, said the statement. The first unit of 525 MW was commissioned in September 2011. With this development, Tata Power?s gross generation capacity has touched 5,297 MW, the statement added.

Dell India launches XPS 13 Ultrabook at R79,900

Dell India has launched its XPS 13 Ultrabook, with a starting price of R79,900. This is Dell’s first ultrabook in India and is targeted at young consumers who often travel. ?The XPS 13 is now available at Dell exclusive stores, large format retail stores and partners nationwide at a starting price of R79,900 plus, excluding taxes,? said Mahesh Bhalla, executive director and general manager for consumer & SMB at Dell India. ?The prices are likely to come down once the volume of sale pick up,? said Debjani Ghosh, MD, sales and marketing group at Intel South Asia.

BHEL gets R630-crore equipment order

Government-owned BHEL on Tuesday said it has bagged Rs 630 crore contract from a private power company, Abhijeet Projects, for setting up a thermal plant at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. “BHEL has signed a contract with Abhijeet Projects, an Independent Power Producer (IPP) for setting up a 300 MW thermal power plant in Visakhapatnam,” a BHEL statement said.
