Ousted BCCI chief N Srinivasan can contest the election of International Cricket Council (ICC) president scheduled for June 27. The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a plea by the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) to restrain him from participating in the polls.
Declining to pass any order, the SC Bench headed by Justice JS Khehar said its order did not impose any bar on Srinivasan as far as ICC post was concerned. ?Our orders are clear. There is no conflict of interest,? it said.
The association had argued that Srinivasan must be restrained from assuming any position in the ICC in view of his undertaking to the court that he will not act as BCCI chief till the probe into IPL case is over. Pointing towards the investigation against Srinivasan on the orders of the Supreme Court and also questioning how he could be allowed to go ahead and join ICC now, CAB said that after his ouster from the Board in the wake of serious allegations, Srinivasan should not represent at ICC at all.
Srinivasan is among 13 persons named in the secret report submitted by the Justice Mukul Mudgal panel in the apex court, which last month ordered a full-fledged investigation into the secret report so as to unravel the truth behind the charges levelled against Srinivasan and others. The top court on March 28 had divested Srinivasan from functioning as the BCCI president in the wake of the allegation of betting and spot-fixing against several people, including some cricketers and his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan.
It had then turned down Srinivasan?s plea to reinstate him as the BCCI chief and had asked legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar to continue discharging functions as the chief for Indian Premier League-2014 and BCCI senior vice president Shiv Lal Yadav to look after other affairs of the cricketing board.
