They are among the top companies in the automotive, aerospace and manufacturing sector in UK and are keen on being part of the India growth story. Sheffield, The Welding Institute (TWI), Leach and Thompson, Arnold Magnetic Technologies, VTL Automotive, Caparo and the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre operated by University of Sheffield with Boeing were part of the UK metal technology specialists companies seeking business opportunities in India. Companies were looking at for possible JVs, tie-ups and collaborations with companies from Pune, Chennai and Bangalore.

Apart from the automotive and aerospace sector, the civil nuclear energy programme was also a great attraction for some British companies wanting to come to India, says Simon Muter, regional sector advisor, advanced engineering and emerging technologies, Yorkshire and The Humber, who is leading the delegation.

Rolls-Royce (power systems provider) has tied up with the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre for research in metal technology for the nuclear industry. ?This investment by Rolls-Royce for a nuclear engineering facility has potential for Indian suppliers,? Muter said. The Nuclear AMRC is based on the model developed by the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing. It will develop a consortium of industrial members from across the supply chain. The NAMRC centre will focus on the machining, fabrication and the assembly of components for nuclear power stations. Areva, Westinghouse and Sheffield Forgemasters International to join the initiative.
