Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Communications (Rcom) has appointed Vivek Sawhny as CEO, and said Gurdeep Singh, president & CEO (Wireless), will now head the company’s consumer business representing about 70% of the company’s revenues.
Sawhny joins Rcom after an over 10-year stint at Bharti group in various roles, including being a member of the management board; joint president, Airtel Enterprises; and president & COO, Bharti Retail.
The company’s consumer business, which will be headed by Singh, comprises wireless, DTH and consumer broadband. This is the second set of appointments the company is making in the last two months. In January, Rcom named Bill Barney as Reliance Globalcom CEO.
The company, which has a debt of R39,401 crore, also said on Monday it has constituted its board of management.
Meanwhile, the company is restructuring its CDMA business, which it is separating from the GSM business. ?We believe this renewed focus of a go-to-market strategy, led by the increasing availability of the ecosystem or devices, is a good time for us to accelerate the pedal on the CDMA business, which is already bottomed out, and we are now looking to up growth in this segment over the next few quarters,? Singh said on a conference call with analysts.
Last week, Rcom reported a 84% sequential drop in net profit to R108 crore for the quarter ended December 31 2014.
